Mariani Tourism

Mariani is a town located about 17 kms from Jorhat city in Assam. It is an important railway junction and is located in the border of Nagaland.

As per the 2001 census, Mariani had a population of 23,065. The average literacy rate is 68.5%. The population percentage of males to females is 54% to 46%. Mariani has a population speaking various languages.

Economy of Mariani

Much of the economical outsource comes from the railway junction where most of the population are engaged. Apart from that, Mariani has one of the largest plywood factories of India. However, this was closed down due to large felling of trees. A small amount of people are also gradually taking up business and other trade forms for livelihood. Tea plantation is an income generation source.

The tourism sector though haven’t developed much in Mariani, one can visit the places around Mariani including Jorhat, Golaghat, Sibsagar and the Mokokchung hill ranges. There is also the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary which is located on the way to Nakachari from Mariani at a distance of 5 kms.

Mariani is well connected by road, rail and air.
  • By Air: The nearest airport is Rowriah Airport in Jorhat. 
  • By Rail: Trains from major cities come to and from Mariani and Jorhat. Mariani Junction is the major railway junction of this town. 
  • By Road: There are also buses available from different places to Mariani.
